Why We Use 100% Organic Ingredients
At The Bread Underground, every grain, seed, and flour we use is 100% organic — no shortcuts, no exceptions.
Why? Because non‑organic wheat (and many other crops) are often sprayed with glyphosate‑based herbicides right before harvest to “dry down” the crop and force it to die quickly. This lets big farms squeeze in a second planting — but it leaves chemical residue on the grain you eat.
We’re not interested in that.
We choose organic because we want our bread — and your food — to be as clean and honest as possible. Organic grains are grown without synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or GMOs, and we believe they taste better, ferment better, and help rebuild healthy soil.
The Bread Underground is officially registered organic with the state of California and we’re in the process of obtaining full certification through Oregon Tilth, one of the most respected organic certifiers in the country.
